Drought and conflict in arid and semi-arid areas are closely interlinked. Recurrent drought intensifies competition over scarce water and pasture resources, while conflict undermines livelihoods, disrupts social cohesion, and weakens community resilience. Along the Isiolo-Garissa-Meru corridor, these interconnected pressures have contributed to recurring insecurity, displacement, and constrained local development.
The National Drought Management Authority, in partnership with the County Governments of Garissa, Isiolo, and Meru, and civil society organisations, has organised the Peace Caravan for Community Resilience under the theme “Tudhibiti ukame, kwa amani na malisho endelevu.” The initiative seeks to promote peaceful coexistence and the equitable sharing of natural resources.
