The NDMA has a new Chairperson of the Board following the appointment of Mr. Shallow Abdullahi Yahya by H.E the President. Mr Yahya takes over from Mr Raphael Nzomo, who served as Chairman since 2019.
Speaking during a handover ceremony, Mr. Yahya thanked his predecessor for the achievements realised during his tenure.
“As I assume this responsibility, I am privileged to continue the amazing legacy that Mr. Nzomo has left behind. We will collaboratively strive to address drought challenges, adjust to change, and keep improving the lives of the communities we serve,” he said.
On his part, Mr. Nzomo expressed gratitude to H.E the President for the opportunity to serve the country in the position which, he said, was both rewarding and demanding.
“The toll on livelihoods, loss of livestock and crop failure weighed heavily on our shoulders. The ElNiño rains brought flooding, compounding our losses, particularly in the livestock sector.” the outgoing Chairman said.
He also thanked Board Members for their steadfast commitment to the Authority’s mission and vision, staff for hard work and dedication, and the Ministry of East African Community, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), and Regional Development for their support, which has been essential in fostering NDMA projects.
