The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) has been supporting Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) initiatives in arid and semi-arid counties. Implemented with support of the Kenya Rural Development Programme (KRDP) ASAL Drought Management project, the main focus has been on building capacity of community planning structures to allow mainstreaming of drought risk reduction strategies in the local planning process through a Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR) approach.
