The borehole rehabilitation, along with two 10,000-litre tanks, a 400-meter pipeline extension, and a 15-meter steel water tower, will ensure a reliable water supply for the area.

The KSh 4.47 million project is expected to benefit approximately 500 households and up to 1,000 heads of livestock providing a vital resource for the community.

The project was implemented by the National Drought Management Authority with funding from the European Union. Mr. Harsama extended his gratitude to the EU and the various stakeholders who contributed to the project’s success.

Speaking at the event, NDMA CEO Lt. Col. (Rtd) Hared Adan, emphasized the importance of implementing community priority projects. “NDMA follows a participatory approach, enabling communities to identify their challenges and prioritise actions to address them. This ensures that our interventions effectively target the most pressing needs of the community,” he said.

Apart from the Golole Water Project, the Government is implementing additional initiatives through the NDMA with the goal of resilience building in Marsabit County. These include the Misa Integrated Irrigation Project the Sirata Micro-Irrigation Project in Loglogo and a camel restocking across all sub-counties.

As part of ongoing interventions to improve water access in Marsabit, the PS on 4th January 2025, flagged off water trucking services in Bori, Butiye Ward. This initiative is a critical lifeline for communities facing acute water shortages.

The NDMA in collaboration with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), is delivering emergency water supplies to 26 out of 42 identified sites across the county. With additional support from the County Government of Marsabit and other partners, this joint effort seeks to alleviate the crisis and ensure communities receive much-needed relief.
