A number of counties have not recovered fully from the effects of the previous drought and the prospects for the coming months are uncertain considering that the forecast for December 2017 indicates that most of the ASAL areas are likely to experience generally dry weather conditions during the month while the October-November-December (OND) 2017 seasonal rainfall is expected to cease during the second week of December.

Currently, four counties: Isiolo, Garissa, Kajiado and Tana River are classified in the alarm phase, while all the other counties are in normal or alert, with the trend generally being ether stable or improving.
